Well I finally had my first experiance with a really big striper down near willow today and I learned I need to upgrade sum equipment...
I started out before sun up and hooked into a nice fish pretty early and she got me in the trees again and broke off my 12'' minnow that I have been doing very well with. Then hooked a small 12lbr and released it also on a 12'' minnow, then fought a descent fish for a bit and it got off.I reeld in my lure and had scales on all 3 hooks on rear treble.
About two hours later after lunch I got hit again and this was a biggun it pulled drag for at least 5-8 seconds strait then I gained on it a lil bit and it went on an even bigger run pullin drag like crazy so I knew it was big then she came up and rolled and splashed and it was huge. Im estimating close to 4 feet long!!!!!!! Then she went back down on another run straight to the bottom in about 60 ft depth, pulling drag for a long time then my 30lb P-line broke.... I just sat there for a while kinda stunned and mad, I lost a really big fish and 2 great lures...
Im really satisfied with how my Penn rod and reel set held up... I will try sum bigger mono or switch up and try sum braid.

You'll be thinking about today and shaking your head for a while to come. It sounds like an exciting day. What doesn't kill you will only tend to make you stronger. _________________ Here fishy fishy fishy!

Did you pickup a new set? What did you go with?We just picked up a new reel for my wife that holds more line than her Shimano Baitrunner. We went with a Penn Battle 6000. I am impressed with the new Penn lineup of reels. _________________ Here fishy fishy fishy!

I like fishing with spinning gear and i picked up the feirce combo from bass pro for 100 bucks with a 7ft med hvy stiff tip rod. I can put 250yds of 30lb test on it and Im really happy with it. The reel sells for 90 bucks normaly so its a pretty good deal. Im gonna get me a 10 footer for casting when i can afford it.

That Fierce 8000 should give you the power and leverage to handle a big fish. Penn has really stepped up their design and developement over the last few years and are putting out some nice equipment. They are giving great bang for a buck nowadays. I have been into Shimano reels for the last bunch of years but after buying my wife's Battle reel I've decided that Penn may get my $$$ in the future. We'll see how they hold-up over time with the way these fish put them to work. Good luck with the new gear. _________________ Here fishy fishy fishy!
