Usually storms and such make them eat, not so much this weekend, two small fish. One 6lb sun night, one 10lb Monday morning just before the storm.only a few other small fish caught this past few days.. but usually the fish on the river spawn in waves and if the patterns continue as usuall.there should be a second batch moving up end of aug into september. So hopefully they will pick up

Better than nothing. Was that a 12" Minnow? Maybe the stars are aligning. I have been unable to return to Willow over the last month and it seems the fishing has been relatively slow. Maybe when I get back there the fish will be on again. Fingers crossed. One question, are there any laws pertaining to gaffing a fish in freshwater? For some reason I thought it wasnt allowed. Maybe in California freshwater? Not sure why I thought that.

gaffs are legal here but in California where the govt. is run by """""" they are illegal...

last 3 days its been 80-90 degrees. Hard flooding rain yesterday, monsoons.... First its 119 degrees, then 72 in the morning and 85 in the afternoon...maybe global freezing is coming!

The gaff thing like allan said ok here but cali is tough. I do gaff the smaller ones in the mouth. If I can that way they can grow a little more. But 15.lbs or bigger are gettin stuck good lol. I know there are a lot of striped bass down there biologists say millions found in electro shocking and the smaller ones taste good. But sometimes its easier to clean one big fish for several meals than to clean 100 small fish for two meals lol.

MR Bass Turd, yes due to the controlled water temps on the river and being land locked, we luck out down here as usually we have waves of spawning fish .different than east cost river stripers or west coast stripers which run up the rivers to spawn certain times of the year. As our stripers are land locked and have only been. In the systemin the mid 80s when the spillwas overflowed at hover dam. Now they are stuck, and hang around in the lake untill water temps change ,then move up towards the dam to spawn they also spawn in the lake . But most of them still have that migrational instinct. .in the past we have had fish in december jan feb and march with eggs. Few in may and less in june , a lot of smaller male fish caught in between that in the river. Than again in like aug sept we have found them again. With eggs hard to study them as state and feds have not done many studies on them ,except to see hoy they affect the endangered razorback

All the info that has been gathered on them has been from fisherman like us taking pics of their physical state location. And stomach contents .and passing that info on, in older posts I posted a link to where. We can get paid cash for the pictures and info given to this study. Work in progress. But very different from smb and lmb and ocean run stripers. Our river runs in about ten year cycles or so.we believe . And with the us hatchery feeding them every Friday.12in stockers, they love to come up from the lake to eat em . Good luck guys .ps I don't mind sharing any info I have learned or gathered as I know trophy fishing is tough enough .down, here. And when fish are caught more info is gathered and we all win...some guys get pissed and send me pm hey u give out to much info or u gave away my spot . Shit that's my job , and those fish move around so much that any spot could be a lucky spot. I learned from some old timers and intend on passing it all on so it never dies.. if you are not catching fish fish harder.

I for one really appreciate the info you and everyone else shares here. I believe an online forum should be full of info and people should be there to help others. I have only been looking at fishing forums for the last couple years and most of them are full of people bragging and keeping secrets, bashing the new guys and being complete di**s. Not sure why some people are so afraid to share. Maybe they think if the playing field was even then they would be outdone and their ego would be crushed. All I can guess. Dont mean to hijack this thread, just wanted to give a big thanks for sharing the info here. Hopefully I get down there next weekend for some action. Gotta knock the dust off these new lures.

PM sent. Gonna be out there thursday-sunday. Gonna hit it hard trolling as many hours as possible. I found a place to store my boat so Im gonna keep my boat up there for the rest of the year so I can get there and back quicker and cheaper. Ill likely bring my boat back down here for the DVL winter trout stocks. Other than that, it's gonna stay up in Boulder city. Im gonna try to get up there every few weeks or so for the rest of the year. Mr. Big Stripe is going down! I have a loaner trolling motor that should work for this trip. Hopefully I get lucky and get on some fish this time. See you guys out there if you can make it.
